The Sumner County Sheriff’s Office employees are protected under Civil Service. In order to be considered for a position with the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office one must first take and pass the Civil Service Exam.
With the exception of Correctional Officer positions we give our Civil Service Exam only once a year. Our next test will be in January 2020

The Sumner County Sheriff's Office will have Civil Service Correctional Officer test on the following dates;
The deadline to turn in applications will be the Friday prior to each test date @ 4PM.
Application fee of $20.00 per test must be paid in cash with completed application. The Entry Level test is general aptitude and has no study guide. It covers Reading, Math, English, Spelling, and Comprehensive.
Applicants scoring 70 or above will be placed on a hiring roster for the remainder of the year 2019.
Below are the Employee Qualifications and Testing requirements.
Corrections Officer – Entry Level:
Must be United States citizen. Must have received honorable discharge if military service was performed. Must be minimum of 18 years old, high school or GED graduate, pass written civil service test, pass background investigation, pass physical examination, pass psychological examination, pass drug screening test and be willing to work shifts, weekends and holidays as needed. Will be required to become Tennessee Corrections Institute certified and maintain T.C.I. certification. Will be required to maintain a valid driver’s license.
School Crossing Guard :
Responsible for traffic control in Beech school zone.
Qualifcations include, but are not limited to: 18 years or older, high school
diploma or accepted GED certifcate, citizen of the U.S., no arrest or
conviction for charges of force, violence, thef, dishonesty, gambling, liquor
or controlled substances; have an honorable discharge from armed forces
if applicable, have a good moral character and pass a background check;
pass a physical, psychological and a drug screen; and have a valid driver’s

pedestrians and vehicles through the school zone. Crossing guards must
be prepared to direct trafc using signs and or hand signals. Applicants

year. Pay will be $15.53 per hour.
