Inmate Visitation

Inmate Visitation

The Sumner County Jail utilizes an audio/video visitation system.

Each inmate is entitled to a one hour visit per week. Inmates must file an authorized visitors list with the jail staff prior to visits being permitted. The authorized visitor’s list shall not exceed five persons being allowed to visit. Visitation is limited to family members consisting of husband and/or wife, children, parents, brothers and/or sisters, grandparents, boyfriend and/or girlfriend.

Authorized family visitors may call the visitation office between the hours of 8:00am – 3:00pm, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) to schedule a visit. Visits must be scheduled at least one day in advance. The phone number to schedule visits is (615) 442-1813.

Visitation hours are from 7:00am – 10:00am, 1:00pm – 4:00pm and 7:00pm – 9:00pm.

Trustee visits are Monday through Thursday, 7:00am – 10:00am and 7:00pm – 9:00pm.

Visitors must show proper identification and sign in at the visitor information desk before the scheduled visit. The visitation area is located at the rear area of the jail. Access to the visitor parking lot is off Foster Ave, one block south of West Smith Street in Gallatin.

Only 2 visitors are permitted at a time. Visitors are subject to a frisk search. Children must be supervised by their parents and/or guardian. Lack of supervision may result in the visit being terminated.

Restrooms are located in the visitation area, however, if a person leaves a visit, they may not be allowed back to complete the visit.

All visitors are required to be polite and courteous or the visit will be terminated.

If an inmate refuses to visit with any member of the visit, the visit will be cancelled for everyone.

Visitors must dress conservatively. Shoulder to waist must be covered with no transparent clothing. Short shorts, mini skirts, or short dresses are not acceptable attire. Visitors in such attire will be denied visitation.

Attorney / Client Visitation

Attorneys must sign in at the visitation desk and receive an identification badge.

Attorneys may visit any day of the week, including weekends and holidays, from 10:00am – 1:00pm and 4:00pm – 7:00pm.

Reserved private audio-video conference rooms are provided for attorneys in the visitation area. Attorneys may request a face to face visit with their client to facilitate delivery or signing of documents when necessary. The inmate will be brought from his/her cell/pod to an area designated by the shift supervisor and/or jail administrator.

Attorneys are not permitted to visit the inmates in the cell/pod areas without permission of the jail supervisor and/or jail administrator.

If an attorney desires to visit with his/her client prior to a court appearance, the visit will occur in the court holding cell booths adjacent to the courtroom areas. The court officer can provide assistance to the attorney to access the court holding cell area.

Attorney visits may be limited or delayed during the serving of meals, while inmates are receiving medical care or other times that the security of the jail requires inmate movement being restricted.

Any disputes or problems with attorney/client visits should be reported directly to the jail administrator or shift supervisor.
